With more and more people spending more and more time at home, it's necessary to keep utility bills down as much as possible. So much water is wasted every day by leaky faucets, running baths, watering lawns, etc. For those that are aware of this and those who should be, knowledge is power. But when it comes to water, many of us don’t know where to start. Flume, a water-saving app, was designed to change that. Flume puts the power of water consumption and conservation in the consumer's hands, protects the home, and improves our relationship with our most precious resource. It bridges the gap between consumers and water providers to fundamentally (and forever) change the way we understand and access water data.
Flume's mission is to empower people and communities to understand how we use water by liberating and digitizing the data behind it. In 2014, California experienced its worst drought in 1,200 years.
Officials encouraged ways to reduce consumption, but no one really knew how much water they were using. Flume was designed to change that. They set out to provide a better way to share high-definition water data with people and the communities they live in.
The device attaches to the meter and works with an easy app. It will automatically text you when there is an issue or excessive use. This allows to monitor activities that can overtax a bill or waste precious H2O. It helps conserve water and dollars.
Flume digitizes ~4.43 million gallons per day. In 2020, Flume has digitized 1,064,134,764 gallons of water
70% of all Flume Users have found a leak with Flume. Of those, 37% found a leak within their first week.
Flume Customers reduce consumption at least 10% year-over-year with Flume.
FlumeCares is a program intended to increase access to smart home water management, leak detection, and water budgeting technology for all communities. Through direct distribution utility programs already in place, Flume will reduce the base cost of a device allowing qualifying households to access the smart home water devices at no cost.
Many low-income households have trouble paying their water bill. Due to the economic downturn caused by COVID-19, the number of families unable to pay their water bills has increased. High water bills can be the result of unknown leaks or lack of understanding about how or where to save water. Even in households that may be aware of leaks, issues go unaddressed because of lack of funds to afford a plumber or adequately address the problem. While Flume has worked with utilities in the past to provide low-cost rebate and coupon programs, even the reduced rate may be too high for some families to afford.
Water is an essential part of life and Flume wants to help ease the burden of paying water bills. The Flume device can help qualifying low income households catch leaks and better manage their water budgets, reducing economic burden and enabling both customers and utilities to better manage resources.”
